In January 2003 I set out the following target: To get all species currently held in captivity producing viable F1 froglets by the end of 2003. By 2005, we want to be breeding from these F1 froglets. Now, three years later, how are we doing? Well, the programme has produced F1 froglets of several species now, but it is only with aurantiaca that F1 froglets have been bred from. We now have F3 froglets from aurantiaca. So the January 2003 target has been exceeded in some respects, but this is not enough. I believe that the new target should be to establish long term viable captive populations of these species so that if they become extinct in the wild, the captive populations can continue to exist indefinitely.
